Unexpected Exhibitors Surprise Visitors at SIBF 2025

Space-EX | The Last Resort: Seoul International Book Fair 2025

Brands not traditionally tied to publishing showed up at the SIBF 2025 to deliver fresh brand experiences and showcase their current campaigns.

This year’s fair also featured some unexpected exhibitors from outside the publishing and bookstore world. Food brand Otoki partnered with Dasan Books to create a vibrant shop-in-shop booth. Drenched in Otoki’s signature yellow, the booth was titled “Mind Nourishment Restaurant,” cleverly conveying the idea that “just as good writing nourishes the mind, a good meal can do the same.” The booth showcased and sold a variety of branded merchandise, including character keyrings featuring Otoki’s mascot, Yellows, as well as collaborative merchandise produced with Object Sangga (“Object Market”). A hands-on station also invited visitors to craft their bookmark keyrings. Despite not being a publisher, Otoki’s booth was buzzing with visitors, rivaling those of major publishing houses. Another notable exhibitor was the Seoul Metropolitan Library, which brought the Seoul Outdoor Library experience indoors. Currently operating across Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square, and Cheonggyecheon Stream, these outdoor libraries were reimagined within the booth. Large screens displayed peaceful footage of citizens reading at the actual sites. At the same time, another section, running diagonally, recreated the Cheonggyecheon Stream, with folding chairs placed nearby—allowing visitors to imagine themselves reading by the outdoor library, ‘Reading by the Clear Stream.’ Visitors also had the chance to experience “Silent Night Book Time,” a quiet reading program designed to help citizens escape the city’s noise and fully immerse themselves in books. Inside the bustling exhibition hall, visitors put on provided headsets and quietly read, their expressions focused, creating a unique and oddly captivating visual scene. Additionally, the booth introduced the city-run book club, “Hip Dok Club,” and its bestselling book, “Seoul Playbook 365.”
