The Ever-Expanding Industry

Trend Hunter | MWC 2025 Creation Through Convergence and Connectivity

The showcasing of diverse technologies and devices at MWC 2025 hinted at future opportunities where AI and network technologies extend far beyond mobile communications—into a wide range of industries.

NTT Docomo’s AI-AR Glasses: Optimal for Training

A subsidiary of NTT Docomo, Japan’s largest telecom operator, introduced AI-powered AR glasses that demonstrated strong potential for use in training and education across various sectors. At the booth, visitors were invited to try the “MiRZA” AR glasses through an interactive calligraphy experience. With guided lines displayed on the screen and voice instructions, even those unfamiliar with brush techniques or Japanese characters were able to write Chinese characters with ease. Through this activity, NTT Docomo illustrated how AR glasses can support low-skilled workers in learning complex tasks—such as engine assembly—with greater efficiency. The company effectively highlighted the practical applications of AR glasses in industrial training and workplace education across industries.

IBM: A Personalized AI Sports Coach

IBM demonstrated how its proprietary AI agent, WatsonX, combined with vision AI technology, can deliver personalized analysis and coaching for athletes. At the booth, visitors took part in a mini soccer game, where the AI recorded and analyzed individual performances by tracking stick figure athletes. In the table tennis zone, the AI not only traced the trajectory of the ping pong ball as it bounced across different areas of the table, but also analyzed and visualized racket angles and swing power through real-time graphs. What made the demonstration particularly impressive was that none of the sports equipment was connected to computers—the AI interpreted all data using vision-based recognition technology. While the games were presented in an entertaining format, the technology behind them has practical applications in developing game strategies and even recruiting professional athletes. By offering a hands-on experience, IBM effectively showcased the scalability of AI in the sports industry.

AI Avatar Counseling to Support Mental Health

SK Telecom, in partnership with YATAV, unveiled “Meta Forest,” a platform that provides AI avatar-based counseling aimed at supporting the mental health of adolescents. Leveraging SK Telecom’s AI facial expression tracking technology, the platform mirrors the emotions of the user onto an avatar, creating an immersive experience that closely replicates real-life psychological counseling. Powered by AI capable of capturing 478 facial features and detailed eye movements, the system enables nuanced emotional expression and natural conversation—even in non-face-to-face settings. Recognizing its innovative approach, Meta Forest received the Best Mobile Innovation for Enhancing the Lives of Children and Young People at the GLOMO Awards, demonstrating the potential of AI in the fields of mental health and digital healthcare.
