Standout Booths and Programs That Captivated Visitors

Space-EX | The Last Resort: Seoul International Book Fair 2025

Exhibitors and program organizers drew interest by showcasing distinctive concepts and featuring appearances by high-profile figures.

This year’s Seoul International Book Fair brought together over 530 exhibitors, packing the expansive venue with tightly arranged booths. Over 370 programs, from book talks to seminars, unfolded throughout the fair. Amid the crowd and content, several booths drew particular attention. Millie Seojae (“Millie’s Library”) designed its booth under the concept “A Special Journey Through Books: Millie Tour.” In particular, the “AI Dok-f(p)arming” (“AI Book Farming and Dopamine”)—a coined word that translates into “farming books and releasing dopamine through reading”— corner allowed visitors to receive personalized book recommendations from AI and then print out a boarding pass labeled with the recommended book title—creating the feeling of embarking on a journey to the book. In the “Duty-free Shopping” zone, Millie offered discounted prices on the publisher’s original books. At the Munhakdongne booth, the “Blind Book” corner caught visitors’ eyes. Books were wrapped in packaging that concealed the title and price, with intriguing teaser lines written on the outside—such as “A children’s story that soaked the proof copy with tear stains,” “A comforting short comic that eases your tense shoulders,” and “For my teenage self who couldn’t see the way forward.” These emotionally engaging and curiosity-piquing blurbs drew readers in and sparked a desire to purchase. The limited-edition blind books sold out entirely at the fair. Elsewhere, booths for Pyeongsanbooks bookstore, run by former President Moon Jae-in, and MUZE, a publishing house founded by actor-turned-publisher Park Jeong-min, drew long lines of visitors hoping to see them in person. Throughout the fair, an extensive lineup of programs—ranging from book talks and seminars to writer meetups—captivated audiences as renowned writers and influential cultural figures took the stage as featured speakers. A talk on “The Future of Artificial Intelligence” featured science communicator Orbit and Lee Saedol, professor at UNIST. Acclaimed Sci-fi authors Cheon Seonran and Kim Choyeop discussed the topic “Asian Women Writing Science Fiction.” Other high-profile speakers included film director Park Chan-wook, actor Park Jeong-min, architect Yoo Hyun-joon, former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Moon Hyungbae, chef Choi Kang Rok, picture book artist Baek Heena, and Tolstoy Prize-winning novelist Kim Juhea.
