Why is it so difficult for victims of domestic violence to escape their homes? For some, it’s because they have nowhere to go. For others, it’s because they can’t afford to leave. AXA set out to help women trapped in abusive households by adding just “three words” to its contract. In France, where home insurance is mandatory, AXA revised its housing policy that previously offered emergency relocation only in cases of fire or flood. The insurer added just three words—“and domestic violence”—to provide immediate housing support for victims facing abuse. It also took steps to offer legal assistance and psychological care, creating a comprehensive safety net for those seeking to break free from abuse. With over a decade of experience supporting leading women’s rights organizations, AXA brought its deep expertise to this bold initiative and took home the Dan Wieden Titanium Grand Prix at Cannes Lions.
