Killabyte is a game-based campaign designed to enhance the experience of Spark Game Arena Live, New Zealand’s first-ever gaming event. Upon arrival, attendees are recruited into a secret organization and assigned a mission: to defeat “Byte,” the most formidable boss in the gaming world. They carry out this mission by participating in a range of activities—including watching tournaments, attending talks, and even enjoying food—all of which contribute to the goal of defeating Byte. The campaign was designed to immerse attendees in a series of missions and interactions that seamlessly bridge the physical and virtual worlds, enabling them to experience communications technology and digital innovation in a natural way. Through this experience, Spark NZ’s technological value and future-focused brand identity were conveyed in an immersive way. This innovative approach was lauded by the jury for its seamless integration of storytelling and digital technology, along with its effectiveness in maximizing consumer engagement. It was particularly recognized for setting a new benchmark in brand experience through the use of gamification.*
