Refuge - Red Flags

Creative Highlight | International Women’s Day 2025

Domestic abuse charity Refuge marked International Women’s Day on March 8 with a powerful red flag installation at London’s Outernet, as part of a campaign titled “Make the World a Refuge.” Featuring quotes such as “He’d drive so fast up to a red light, then brake suddenly, giving me whiplash,” “He’s never actually physically hurt me, but—,” and “Somehow, he always knows where I am,” the campaign shed light on the many forms of harm and control women experience—often invisible, unrecognized, and unreported. Using the often-trivialized image of the red flag as a signal of abusive traits, Refuge’s campaign is designed to show that there are many red flags when it comes to domestic abuse and that “no red flag is too small” – a message the charity wants everyone to understand.
